Current Events December 2010

This month Urbane: Portrait of a City draws to a close at Katie Gingrass Gallery. This exhibit features artists Stephanie Barenz, Karen Goetzinger, Erin Liljegren, Jody McLeane, Tom Nachreiner, Christian Ricco, Neil Rongstad, Bridget Wolf and Ray Zovar. "Urbane: Portrait of a City celebrates the beauty of the cityscape through the artists' personal interpretations of their urban experiences." The show is up until December 27. http://www.gingrassgallery.com/past.php

Also last Friday, Dec. 3rd, I exhibited in The Milk Factory's first group show. The Milk Factory is a DIY apartment gallery, but a very unique one at that. The former Polonia Dairy at 707 N. Winchester once functioned as a commercial dairy operation. Now the space functions as a gallery and residence. Artists included Dara Benno, Kelsey Zigmund, Jeff Prokash, Erin Liljegren, Nathan Vernau, Morgan Simms and more. The one night art party had a surprising and packed turnout. It was a lot of fun. Thanks to Jeff Prokash and Dara Benno for hosting a great exhibit and awesome party. The Milk Factory Gallery

I grew up in a small town on the edge of Chicagoland. I always had the urban and rural environments on both sides of my town. When I was in high school, the sprawl pushed on into the countryside, swallowing my town into the mass of the Chicago suburbs. Even at that age, I felt upset by this, knowing this was just the start of the inevitable destruction that was to follow.

After gaining my Bachelor in Fine Arts from UW-Madison, I moved back to the city of Chicago, where I have been for the last couple of years working and pursuing art. I see a lot of beauty in the industrial landscape, but it is a trial of patience to be in such close proximity to so many people, cars, and buildings. My work enables me to channel this frustration into an aesthetic process.
